About Me

About me...

Well, that’s me, as a little girl, reaching out to behold the majesty of a giant redwood tree. Its sheer size dwarfs me and I remember being awed by its massive height and feeling an inherent respect for any living thing that had seen centuries pass and was still standing.

In a way, every good parent has the attributes of that tree: larger than life, strong and rooted, and providing shelter and protection.

And so, the metaphor in that picture represents, for me, the purpose of this website.

I believe the world, now more than ever, needs great kids to become the great adults of the next generation. We, as parents, must rise to the task of raising them. The abdication of this duty, quite simply, puts the very future of our society in jeopardy.

I am a work-at-home single mother of two teenagers, have a B.A. degree from UCLA, worked as an Instructional Aide for Special Education kids, and I am currently a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) who provides support and a voice in court for abused and neglected children in the foster care system.

Daily, I witness a world where the proverbial inmates seem to be running the asylum. Where, in the mad rush for better, faster, flashier technology, we have lost the ability to slow down and focus on what’s really important, the basic elements that constitute a meaningful life. The media today shows the average child more images of violence and degradation in one week than a lifetime used to provide.

It appears that with all the information in the universe available at our fingertips, we have somehow lost our way and forgotten our purpose, become disillusioned and disconnected from ourselves and from each other. Families rarely all live in the same towns any more, single parent households are common, our priorities as a society are misplaced, and it is our children who suffer for it.

Only decisive action can reverse this trend. It's time to get back to basics and re-learn the parenting fundamentals that seem to have gone out of fashion. Only you can be the wise, stalwart, rooted tree your child needs as a role model. Stand tall, at the ready, for the toughest job there is.

And when your job is done, you will smile with pride at the gift you have given to the world…your pride and joy…your great kid!

My hope and my purpose with this website, is to provide you with some practical skills for that journey. I wish you every success!

Your friend in parenting,

Elizabeth Fisher
